Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar inaugurated the newly established Sindh Police Driving School at the Police Training School in Saeedabad, Karachi, calling it a landmark step toward safer roads and disciplined driving.
Upon arrival, the minister received a guard of honor, followed by a detailed briefing from Additional IG Training regarding the driving school’s structure and goals.
“The driving school is a gift for the citizens of Sindh,” said Minister Lanjar. “It will ensure that only properly trained individuals are allowed to drive on roads and highways, reducing accidents and encouraging respect for traffic laws.” He expressed hope that the facility would become a milestone in the Sindh Police’s reform efforts.
Lanjar emphasized the need for collective action to improve traffic systems, urging cooperation among all stakeholders.
He also lauded DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah for his dedication to law enforcement, especially noting that recent fines targeting government officials have helped promote accountability.
IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon added that the driving school will be expanded under a public-private partnership. “The initiative aims to build public trust in the police while improving driving standards. Officers of integrity have been appointed to lead this effort,” he stated.
He also highlighted plans to strengthen the Driving License Branch and introduce greater transparency in the issuance process. According to Memon, the use of body-worn cameras has already enhanced police performance, and amendments to traffic laws are under review to ensure better enforcement.
Work on the Safe City Project, he noted, is in progress and will significantly contribute to traffic management once completed.
