The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted heavy monsoon rains in Rawalpindi city, raising fears of flooding from July 15 to August 31.
In response, the district administration has declared a flood emergency and placed all departments on high alert.
Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema announced that seven flood relief camps have been set up in key areas, equipped with food, water, medicines, accommodation, and security.
Rescue teams are monitoring Nala Lai and other storm drains round-the-clock, while a central control room has also been activated to oversee the situation.
“All relevant departments including Rescue 1122, WASA, health, education, police, and transport have been mobilized,” said Cheema. Boats and life jackets have been dispatched to low-lying areas, and government schools near flood-prone zones are being used as relief shelters.
WASA has cancelled all staff leaves, and digital surveillance of Nala Lai is being carried out to ensure immediate response to any rise in water levels.
The district administration has appealed to the public to stay informed through official channels and to avoid unnecessary movement during heavy rains. Citizens are urged to report emergencies via Rescue 1122 or the flood control room.
