Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab carried out surprise inspections at the Nipa and Safoora water hydrants and suspended the staff of both facilities after discovering illegal water supply operations during off-hours.

Accompanied by Water Corporation CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and COO Engineer Asadullah Khan, the mayor found that both hydrants were operational during officially closed times.

In response, show-cause notices were issued to the contractors, and an impartial inquiry into the hydrants’ activities was ordered.

Mayor Wahab declared, “The water of Karachi belongs to its citizens and no one will be allowed to steal it or misuse their authority. Transparency and rule of law must prevail.”

He added that a comprehensive reform drive is underway in the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation to curb irregularities and improve system efficiency.

The mayor further emphasized that a zero-tolerance policy is being enforced against water theft, illegal connections, and abuse of power, warning that no leniency will be shown to those found guilty.

He reiterated his commitment to ensuring fair water distribution across the city and said that the hydrant system will be modernized to better serve Karachi’s growing population.

The crackdown is part of a wider push to eliminate corruption and bring accountability to the city’s water supply network.
