The Sindh cabinet has approved an interest-free loan of Rs10.56 billion for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to launch a water supply project for the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Karachi.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held at the Chief Minister House, where the need for a long-term water solution for DHA was discussed in detail.
The project is aimed at addressing the growing water scarcity faced by residents of DHA and surrounding areas.
According to officials, the project includes the construction of a 36-kilometre-long pipeline, a state-of-the-art pumping station, a forebay, and a water filtration plant.
The entire project is expected to be completed within 11 months. KWSC will be responsible for managing the construction, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely delivery.
The cabinet emphasized transparency and efficiency throughout the implementation phase.
The loan will be repaid by KWSC, but no interest will be charged, making it easier for the utility to manage its finances while completing this essential project.
