The Sindh Cabinet has approved a significant infrastructure project to address water shortages in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Karachi, by laying a dedicated pipeline from Dumlottee.
Currently, DHA receives only 4 to 5 million gallons per day (MGD) of water, despite needing at least 15 MGD, according to officials.
To bridge this critical gap, the cabinet has endorsed the plan to lay a 36-kilometre water pipeline from Dumlottee that will supply an additional 10 MGD to the area.
The cabinet also approved the construction of a pumping station, filtration plant, and reservoir as part of the project’s broader design to ensure clean and uninterrupted water supply to the residents of DHA. This development is expected to significantly ease the chronic water crisis faced by the area.
To support the implementation, the Sindh Cabinet sanctioned an interest-free loan of Rs 10.56 billion to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) for executing the DMLoti project.
Abdul Rashid Channa, spokesperson for the Chief Minister Sindh, confirmed the approvals and emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to resolving Karachi’s water scarcity issues.
