PCB chairman assures Karachi’s inclusion in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi has assured that the Karachi team will be included in the upcoming Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, following widespread concern over its exclusion from the tournament.

During a recent meeting, Chairman of the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) Fawad Ijaz Khan raised objections over the absence of Karachi, a 21-time first-class champion, from the new format of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

He questioned how a team with such a rich cricket history could be excluded from Pakistan’s premier domestic tournament.

Responding to these concerns, Mohsin Naqvi acknowledged the issue and stated that the matter is already under review. He assured that Karachi’s legacy and status in domestic cricket would be respected, and that a satisfactory solution would be found to ensure the team’s participation.

It is worth noting here that the PCB had reduced the number of teams in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy from 18 to 8, without any prior public announcement, leaving Karachi along with teams like Faisalabad, Multan, and Rawalpindi was left out of the top-tier tournament based on last season’s points table.

Teams that did not finish in the top six were expected to qualify through the Grade 2 Hanif Muhammad Cup.

The sudden exclusion sparked strong reactions from cricket fans and officials, particularly due to Karachi’s historic role in shaping Pakistan’s cricketing landscape.
