Pakistan mandates biometric verification for digital transactions

Starting July 1, 2025, mobile wallet users across Pakistan are now required to undergo biometric verification when making online cash transactions.

The move comes under new State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) regulations aimed at improving digital payment security.

Leading mobile wallet services such as Easypaisa and JazzCash have started implementing the updated guidelines.

While online transactions remain unaffected, any deposit or withdrawal made through retail agents now requires biometric verification.

Officials have clarified that no accounts will be blocked, and user funds remain completely safe.

The SBP regulation is not designed to limit access but to protect customers from rising threats of fraud, account misuse, and identity theft.

What Users Need to Know:

  • Biometric verification is now required for cash-in and cash-out at retail agents.
  • No biometric = no deposit/withdrawal at agent locations.
  • Online transactions continue as usual — no change for app-based transfers or payments.
  • Accounts and balances will not be blocked or frozen.
