Monsoon 2025: North Karachi reports highest rainfall among other districts

Karachi rainfall report

The first spell of monsoon rain brought light to moderate showers across Karachi late Thursday evening [June 26], providing temporary relief from the persistent heat and humidity to the residents.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), North Karachi received the highest recorded rainfall of 6.8 mm between 8 AM on June 26 and 2 PM on June 27.

Orangi Town followed closely with 6.1 mm, while Saadi Town registered 2.5 mm. Jinnah Terminal received 2.0 mm, and Gulshan-e-Maymar experienced 1.6 mm of rainfall during the same period.

Other neighborhoods like Nazimabad, PAF Faisal Base, PAF Masroor Base, DHA Phase II, and the Airport Old Area reported 1.0 to 1.4 mm of rain during this monsoon spell.

University Road’s Met Office station reported only a trace of rainfall. Data from Quaidabad, Surjani Town, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Gadap Town, Malir Halt, and Korangi remained unavailable or unrecorded.

Separately, Karachi South recorded the highest rainfall among districts with 9 mm overnight, while Keamari logged 4.75 mm. Karachi East saw 2.25 mm of accumulated showers by Friday morning.

The patchy rainfall patterns, though light, led to concerns about localized waterlogging, traffic congestion, and the vulnerability of poorly drained low-lying areas as more rain is forecast in the coming days.

Residents are urged to remain cautious, limit unnecessary movement, and monitor updates from PDMA and local agencies. Precaution is especially advised in areas with poor drainage or construction obstructions.

The rain temporarily improved weather conditions, dropping temperatures slightly. However, with more monsoon activity expected, authorities warn of possible urban flooding and the need for ongoing preparedness.
