Qingqi rickshaw union demands section 144 withdrawal, threatens to protest

Chingchi rickshaw drivers

The President of the All Karachi Qingqi Rickshaw Association has demanded the immediate removal of Section 144 from 20 major roads in Karachi, calling it unfair and damaging.

While speaking to the media, the president said that Qingqi rickshaw drivers are being fined heavily and even FIRs are being filed against them, despite their operations being legal.

He mentioned a case where an FIR was registered against a student involved in the rickshaw trade, which has now affected his government record and character history.

The association said that their vehicles are legal, RTA-permitted, and approved by the Sindh government, yet the media keeps branding their business as illegal without justification.

They said they are open to talks with the authorities and want solutions through dialogue, not confrontation. They also urged the administration to focus on actual violations like unlicensed driving and wrong parking.

However, the president warned that if negotiations don’t begin within seven days, they will launch a massive protest involving 20,000 to 25,000 drivers on the roads of Karachi.

He added that a committee will soon select a protest site, and they will raise their voices peacefully for the respect and survival of their trade.

The rickshaw drivers asked the government to enforce laws fairly, stating that they are not against action on genuine violations, but want their rights protected.
