Following the directives from Mayor Karachi and Chairman Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), Barrister Murtaza Wahab, KWSC has launched a special plan to ensure smooth water supply and drainage during Muharram 2025.
CEO KWSC Ahmed Ali Siddiqui has instructed all departments to make extraordinary preparations across the city during Muharram in Karachi. Elahi Bakhsh Bhutto, a KWSC officer, issued official letters to mobilize the relevant teams.
All officers are ordered to coordinate with district administration, elected members, religious scholars, especially Shia Ulema, Jafariya Alliance, and other key organizations, while full cooperation has been stressed during this sacred month.
Instructions have been given to complete all water and drainage arrangements before Muharram begins, meanwhile, extra attention is to be given to mosques, Imambargahs, Sabils, Majalis and all procession routes.
Superintending engineers in all city districts must stay in constant touch with other civic agencies. They will monitor water and sanitation issues during processions.

Executive Engineers (Water) are directed to ensure uninterrupted supply across their zones. Meanwhile, Executive Engineers (Sewage) will oversee cleanup of sewer lines, manholes, and procession locations.
The Executive Engineer (Workshop) will ensure suction and jetting machines are operational, duty rosters for Muharram holidays are being prepared for complete staff presence.
The Hydrants Cell In-charge will supply water tankers daily from 1st Muharram till Ashura. These will serve Imambargahs, mosques, Sabils, and other religious sites without any charges.
Focal persons for Muharram arrangements include Chief Engineer Water Muhammad Ali Sheikh and Chief Engineer Sewerage Munir Ahmed Bhatti. Other officers must fully cooperate with them for smooth service.
CEO Siddiqui declared that public facilitation during Muharram is a top priority and any form of carelessness will not be tolerated. Strict monitoring will continue across Karachi during the holy days.
