Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has been invited to Washington, DC, to attend the 250th anniversary of the US Army on June 14, according to the Pakistani Embassy in the US.
According to media reports, the field marshal is expected to arrive on June 12 for the celebrations, which will feature global military leaders, thousands of soldiers, military vehicles, and aircraft.
The event comes amid shifting global alliances, particularly the US-China rivalry, where Pakistan’s strategic position remains significant.
With China heavily invested in Pakistan through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the US is expected to press for stronger Pakistani action against regional terror groups – especially those targeting Afghanistan and India.
Pakistan, in return, seeks assurances regarding the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which operates from Afghan soil, and may also pitch foreign investment in its untapped mineral reserves like lithium, copper, and rare earth metals.
The US Army’s 250th anniversary celebrations will feature a large-scale parade and festival in Washington, with participation from thousands of soldiers, military vehicles, and aircraft.
The event underscores the ongoing efforts to manage the complex security and diplomatic relationship between the US and Pakistan, even as both sides pursue their own strategic interests.
