Police security made mandatory for withdrawals of Rs 500,000 or more

In a move to curb rising incidents of bank robberies, Karachi’s South Police have made it mandatory to request police security for cash withdrawals of Rs 500,000 or more.

According to an official advisory, bank managers must contact the nearest police station to request security whenever a customer plans to withdraw Rs 500,000 or above.

A mobile police bunker will be arranged to escort individuals safely.

The advisory also directs all banks to deploy trained security guards wearing bulletproof jackets.

Banks have further been instructed to install 8-megapixel CCTV cameras covering both internal and external areas to monitor suspicious activity.

Authorities emphasized the need for strict surveillance and warned that unauthorized persons should not be allowed near banking premises.

This initiative reflects the police’s response to growing concerns over street crimes and cash-snatching incidents in Karachi.

The advisory is currently applicable within the South district, with the possibility of expanding citywide if found effective.
