The Sindh government has reported at least 824 heatstroke cases amid a severe heatwave gripping the province since mid-April.
According to official data released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), no casualties have been recorded so far.
PDMA stated that extreme temperatures between 40°C to 46°C have impacted several districts, including Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana, and Hyderabad, advising the public to stay indoors and hydrated.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts the heatwave will intensify from June 7 to 12 due to a high-pressure system, keeping southern Sindh’s temperature six degrees above normal.
In the last 48 hours alone, 15 new heatstroke cases were reported, mostly from Hyderabad and Tando Allahyar. However, proactive healthcare efforts have kept fatalities at zero across all affected districts.

Shaheed Benazirabad leads with 637 treated cases, followed by Khairpur with 163 and Hyderabad with 53. Despite the widespread heat impact, livestock loss has been limited to 71, mostly goats.
To combat the heatwave, the government has set up 544 heatstroke relief camps across various divisions, including Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, which host the majority of these emergency facilities.
Non-profits like READY Pakistan are supporting the crisis response by training over 200 volunteers and setting up medical centers in Jacobabad, Mirpurkhas, and Garhi Khairo to expand frontline capabilities.
The PDMA has also launched awareness campaigns using digital, print, and community platforms. Citizens are urged to avoid peak sun hours, drink water, and follow safety measures to prevent illness.
With Eid approaching, authorities warn the public to remain alert as temperatures are forecast to rise further in the coming week. Preparedness and awareness remain the key to saving lives.
