Sindh approves Silicon Valley-style tech zone in Karachi

Special Technology Zone in Karachi

The Sindh government has secured formal approval to establish its first Silicon Valley-style Special Technology Zone (STZ) on a 500-acre site in Karachi Education City, Gadap.

The initiative, cleared by Pakistan’s Special Technology Zone Authority, aims to transform the area into a cutting-edge innovation hub, modeled after global tech centers like Silicon Valley.

Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister on Investment, confirmed that eight major investors, both domestic and international, have already shown interest in the project.

The zone will prioritize smart manufacturing and host institutions working in automation, cybersecurity, health tech, agri-tech, blockchain, 5G, and clean energy.

“This Special Technology Zone will be the ideal junction for integrating academia with industry,” Qamar said, underlining its potential to generate technological progress and employment.

The project is part of a broader vision to establish Karachi as a regional tech leader, providing youth with access to modern education and high-skilled jobs. Development on the master plan is underway, with the zone expected to become operational soon.

Qamar added that the zone will create vast opportunities for education, technology, and employment, promoting innovation and economic growth across Sindh.
