Karachi intensifies crackdown on illegal cattle markets

Illegal cattle markets crackdown

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has ordered a full-scale crackdown on illegal cattle markets and oil extraction from animal waste before Eid ul Adha 2025.

In a high-level meeting with all Deputy Commissioners, the commissioner instructed strict action against those extracting oil from animal fats, calling the activity unhygienic and dangerous to public health.

The commissioner also warned of tough measures during Eid days to stop the use of animal waste for commercial purposes. He termed the practice a serious risk to citizens’ safety.

Commissioner Naqvi appreciated the successful anti-polio drive led by Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners and acknowledged their strong efforts in clearing out unauthorized cattle markets in Karachi.

He directed that operations against illegal markets must continue until Eid to ensure proper city management and reduce the risk of health hazards in residential and commercial areas.

The city administration was also ordered to maintain discipline during the Eid rush and keep a close check on unlicensed market activities around city roads, grounds, and streets.

Commissioner Karachi urged the officials to ensure only legal and safe cattle markets are operational in the city to protect both buyers and sellers during this important festival.

The commissioner ordered price monitoring teams to update the official price list. The fine for overcharging will now be increased from Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 25,000 for violators.

He emphasized that strict enforcement of pricing laws in animal markets and food stalls is necessary during Eid to avoid public complaints and maintain order in busy commercial zones.

He also praised the commitment of district officers who led earlier campaigns against illegal markets, calling their work a major success for Karachi’s pre-Eid public services plan.
