Karachi gears up for five-day cleanup drive during Eid-ul-Adha

Eid-ul-Adha garbage collection Karachi

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has ordered a coordinated five-day garbage and sanitation operation across the city during Eid-ul-Adha, stressing zero tolerance for negligence.

Chairing a meeting at the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB), the mayor directed that timely garbage collection and immediate redressal of public complaints must be ensured.

The 1128 Complaint Center will remain operational 24/7, and the number of collection points and complaint centers will be shared via official social media platforms of the authority.

Wahab instructed all trucks and vehicles to use tarpaulin covers and avoid overloading, warning that fines will be imposed if waste falls onto roads during transportation to landfill sites.

City wardens will assist the SSWMB, while limestone powder and disinfectant spray will be applied at collection points. He also ordered road washing and soil removal to maintain a healthy environment for citizens during Eid-ul-Adha.

MD Tariq Ali Nizamani briefed that around 100 collection points will be set up, bags distributed to residents, and district-level complaint centers will be activated a day before Eid.

Meanwhile, the attendance of vehicles and staff will be verified a day before Eid, and waste will be moved to GTS sites before final disposal. Green belts and parks will also receive free soil upon TMC request.

Wahab encouraged waste management firms to halt wall chalking and instead promote positive public messages during the sacred festival.
