Sindh Assembly rejects austerity resolution presented by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Muhammad Farooq, despite growing concern over Pakistan’s economic crisis.
Farooq urged lawmakers to cut unnecessary government spending and promote simplicity, starting with the Sindh government itself. He stressed that austerity was essential given the country and province’s dire economic conditions.
Parliamentary Secretary Heer Soho opposed the resolution, claiming austerity was already in effect. “The Chief Minister now serves tea with only two biscuits,” she remarked, drawing reactions from across the chamber.
Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla echoed the opposition, saying expenses had already been reduced, making the resolution unnecessary.
Earlier on April 22, the Sindh government released Rs 526.67 million for the purchase of 35 luxury vehicles intended for official use.
These vehicles are designated for six commissioners and 29 deputy commissioners across the province.
