The government of Sindh extended the deadline for vehicle registration and installation of Ajrak design number plates across the province.
According to Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, the final Sindh vehicle number plate deadline for all vehicle owners to switch to new Ajrak number plates is now June 30, 2025.
Initially, the deadline was set for April 3, later extended to May 15, but June 30 will now be the absolute final date, according to the provincial minister.
After this deadline, vehicles bearing old number plates will not be allowed on the roads. Such vehicles will face confiscation, and their owners will also be fined by the authorities.
The new number plates come with Ajrak design and modern security features. These are being introduced to improve record-keeping and prevent vehicle-related crimes across the province.
Minister Chawla stated that as of December 2024, Sindh has over 8.6 million registered vehicles, including 4.5 million motorcycles, 4 million other vehicles, and 100,000 rickshaws.
He shared that daily registrations have increased significantly, from 3,000 to 4,000 previously to over 22,000 now, indicating a positive public response to the campaign.
Currently, more than 80,000 Ajrak number plates are ready for distribution. The Excise Department is working to complete all pending processes before the June 30 deadline.
After this date, strict enforcement will follow. Vehicles not complying with the updated regulations will face legal action under the revised policy.
The minister urged citizens to act swiftly and avoid penalties. He added that the campaign is aimed at modernizing Sindh’s vehicle tracking system and enhancing public safety.
