Based on current lunar data, a prominent Pakistani astronomer, Dr. Faheem Hashmi, has predicted the date of Eid-ul-Adha 2025.
Dr Hashmi explained that the Zul Hijjah moon is unlikely to be visible in Pakistan on May 27. It will only be 11 hours old at sunset – too young to be seen.
However, he said that the moon will be more than 35 hours old on May 28. At that time, it will be clearly visible in most parts of the country.
In Saudi Arabia, Eid-ul-Adha is usually observed a day before Pakistan; there, the moon may be seen with the help of telescopes on May 27.
If the moon is sighted in the Kingdom on May 27, the Hajj would be on June 5 and Eid on June 6. That would make Eid in Pakistan fall a day later on June 7, 2025.
Dr. Hashmi pointed out that the final announcement will be made by religious authorities. However, the current scientific data strongly supports June 7 as the likely date of Eid ul Azha in Pakistan.
The Meteorological Department and the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will announce the official moon sighting decision later this month.
