Karachi reports 110 fatalities in heavy traffic accidents in 2025

Karachi road accidents

At least 110 people have died in Karachi over the past 132 days of 2025 due to accidents involving heavy vehicles, with the latest tragedy claiming three lives on the Northern Bypass.

According to police reports, a speeding dumper rammed into a car, killing Sulaiman, his son Usama, and cousin Faraz. The dumper driver fled, abandoning the vehicle at the scene.

Family members said the victims were heading to Gulshan-e-Maymar, and that Faraz had been married just two months ago. Sulaiman, a father of four, worked in Karachi’s transport sector.

The family resided in the Manghopir area, and the crash has once again raised alarm over the dangers posed by unregulated heavy transport vehicles in the city.

Police records show that from January to May 2025, trailer trucks caused 42 deaths, water tankers 26, dumpers 22, while Mazdas and buses claimed 10 lives in Karachi.

In response, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi recently ordered that all heavy transport vehicles (HTVs), including dumpers, water tankers, and oil tankers, to equipped with trackers and three cameras – front, rear, and internal – to monitor driver behavior.

Furthermore, the government of Sindh has restricted the movement of heavy vehicles during daytime and imposed a 30km/h speed limit within the metropolis.

Transporters have agreed to submit vehicle fitness reports every 10 days, with data shared with the DIG Traffic office to ensure compliance.
