The Sindh government will launch 100 electric taxis under a public-private partnership (PPP) model to promote safe, eco-friendly transport and create job opportunities.
A high-level meeting was chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, attended by Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, private transport company reps, electric vehicle makers, banks, and Sindh government officials.
Memon said the EV taxi service aims to improve public travel while reducing environmental damage. “EV taxis are a global trend, and Sindh is ready to adopt it,” he stated.
The government’s Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF) will offer KIBOR-based subsidies to companies willing to invest in this green initiative.
In the initial phase, 100 EV taxis will be launched on the roads under the public-private partnership model. Each vehicle will have two trained drivers, ensuring job creation and continuous service.

The EV Pink Taxi service will also be launched, exclusively for women drivers and passengers, supporting women’s empowerment and travel safety in Sindh.
Sharjeel Memon stressed the importance of driver training, police verification, and proper conduct checks for public trust and safety.
Representatives from Careem, Uber, InDrive, Yango, Sindh Bank, Bank Islami, and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority were also part of the discussion.
Special Assistant Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar briefed investors on incentives offered under the PPP model, inviting them to submit proposals quickly to start implementation.
The Senior Minister added that the EV project would replace Qingqi rickshaws, which are often criticized for traffic issues and poor service.
