India’s general Kumar arrested for refusing anti-Pakistan action after Pahalgam

The Indian government has arrested Lieutenant General M.V. Suchindra Kumar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, after the failure of a controversial false flag operation in Pahalgam.

According to media reports, the arrest of Indian General Kumar followed his refusal to take retaliatory military action against Pakistan after the failed false flag operation, which reportedly disrupted the Modi government’s larger plan.

General Kumar was quickly flown to New Delhi under heavy security. He was taken in a special vehicle and later boarded a dedicated aircraft.

Reports suggest that the general will face “counselling” by the Army Chief – an unusual step that hints at serious internal conflict, while a formal inquiry has also been launched.

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reportedly ordered a full investigation into the failed operation, with reports further suggests that General Kumar may appear before a court-martial.

Responsibility for the intelligence and security lapses has been placed on the shoulders of Lieutenant General Kumar, meanwhile, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma is set to take over Northern Command on May 1.

Media reports claimed that despite India’s deployment of over 700,000 troops and vast intelligence support, the operation in Indian-occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam area did not go as planned.

General Kumar has served in key posts including Vice Chief of Army Staff and Director General of Military Intelligence. His service includes international assignments and major roles along the Line of Control.

He has received numerous awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2024). Off-duty, he is known for his interest in yoga, golf, and writing. He is married to educator Asha Suchindra and has two children.
