Dubai Self-Drive Taxi

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed plans to launch self-driving taxis in the city by 2026.

The RTA’s announcement on Wednesday highlighted the expansion of its partnerships with leading global companies in autonomous vehicle technology.

This collaboration will bring self-driving taxis to the streets of Dubai through the efforts of several online cab companies.

These operations will begin with safety drivers behind the wheel to ensure a smooth transition before the official commercial launch in 2026.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of the RTA, emphasized that the autonomous vehicle initiative would represent a transformative shift in Dubai’s transportation landscape, boosting the integration of public transport systems.

The project aligns with the RTA’s strategy to enhance the first and last-mile journey for commuters, particularly benefiting residents, senior citizens, and people of determination.

The expansion of autonomous vehicles is also expected to improve road safety, as human error is responsible for over 90% of traffic accidents.

This development marks a significant step towards enhancing Dubai’s position as a global leader in smart city technologies.

It reflects a broader vision for sustainable and safe transportation solutions, ensuring greater convenience and accessibility for all Dubai residents.

The initiative is expected to contribute to the city’s goal of reducing carbon emissions and modernizing its public transport network.
