Karachi imposes fines of 1.95 mln on 169 traders amid Ramadan 2025

Karachi authorities have intensified their crackdown on profiteering during Ramadan 2025, imposing hefty fines and sealing shops violating official price regulations.

On the fifth day of the holy month, action was taken against 169 traders, resulting in fines totaling Rs 1.95 million. Additionally, 16 illegal profiteers were arrested, and nine shops were sealed.

Over the past five days, authorities have taken action against 792 traders engaged in profiteering, arresting 82 individuals and sealing 56 shops.

The total fines collected so far amount to Rs 15.14 million. District-wise, Rs 865,000 was collected in fines from South Karachi, Rs 500,700 from the East District, Rs 110,000 from the West District, and Rs 150,000 from the Central District.

Meanwhile, Malir traders faced fines of Rs 80,000, Korangi Rs 206,000, and Kemari Rs 15,000.

Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to enforce strict price controls, ensuring no leniency towards violators.

He emphasized the need for heavy fines and arrests for those defying official rates.

Additionally, Assistant Commissioners have been monitoring markets to ensure essential commodities are sold at government-mandated prices.

Citizens have been urged to report instances of overpricing by contacting the Commissioner Karachi Control Room at 92199205634 and 02199203443. Authorities assure strict action against violators to provide relief to the public during Ramadan.
