The authorities in Karachi have imposed fines on several shopkeepers found involved in profiteering.
A meeting on controlling profiteering and enforcing government-regulated prices was chaired by the Commissioner of Karachi.
During the meeting, the members disclosed that several shops across Karachi were found violating the government-regulated prices.

Shops in the South District were fined Rs 967,000, while those in the West District faced a fine of Rs 93,000. The shop owners of Central District fined Rs 264,000, the Korangi District Rs 290,000, and the East District Rs 135,000. Malir District shops received a fine of Rs 155,000, and Keamari District was fined Rs 185,000.
Following that, the meeting members stressed strict market surveillance with officials visiting and inspecting two markets in the city weekly for at least an hour to ensure compliance and prevent overcharging.
Officials were instructed to penalize violators, impose fines, and seize goods from repeat offenders to ensure essential items remain available at official rates.
The meeting also focused on curbing profiteering by registering commission agents and taking strict action against price violators.
Another major point was the daily publication and distribution of price lists for fruits and vegetables.
The Bureau of Supply Department was instructed to expedite the printing and ensure proper distribution to shopkeepers.
