Sindh Transport Department announced free pink e-scooters for female students, and working professionals, aiming to empower them through independent transportation.
During a press conference, the senior minister Sharjeel Inam Memon asserted that only women with a two-wheeler license will be eligible, and the scooters will be allotted through open balloting in front of media.
The department will also offer bike-riding lessons and hire female instructors to train women.
“This initiative will empower women and provide them with greater mobility,” Memon said.
The minister further stated that the candidate who secured a bike through balloting could not be able to sell the two-wheeler for seven years.
The department will procure the bikes through open bidding by different companies.
The Sindh government now plans to introduce pink taxis to further support women’s transportation needs.
