The Sindh government has decided to introduce a ‘Patrol Police’ service to improve security on main highways and curb crime across the province.

This initiative is part of broader efforts, including the installation of modern surveillance cameras, to enhance safety on both highways and within cities.

A key meeting was held under the leadership of IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, to discuss the deployment of ‘Highways Patrolling’ in Sindh.

The meeting, attended by senior police officials, focused on the resources, manpower, and logistics needed to implement the patrol system.

In the first phase, the Sindh Motorways Patrolling Police will be deployed at 11 key locations across the province, including the M-9, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Northern Bypass, Indus, Lyari, National, M-5, Mehran, Thatta-Tomithi, Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas, and Hyderabad-Badin highways.

The patrol unit will be led by a DIG, with the support of three SSPs and seven DSPs, ensuring a comprehensive presence in the regions of Hyderabad, Karachi, and Sukkur.

IG Sindh urged that the primary aim of the patrol police is to prevent crime and enhance law enforcement’s response across highways. The patrols will work alongside city surveillance cameras to act on crime alerts in real time.

Proposals for restoring police check posts, increasing the number of patrolling vehicles, and other related arrangements will be presented to the Sindh government for approval, further strengthening the safety measures for citizens.
