Wasim Akram, regarded as one of cricket’s greatest fast bowlers, has visited India numerous times throughout his career, both in the 1990s and 2000s.

Recalling his experiences, Akram expressed his appreciation for the respect Indian fans showed him, despite the intense India-Pakistan rivalry.

In 2010, Wasim Akram took on the role of bowling coach and consultant for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). During his time with the team, Akram played a pivotal role in developing the skills of Indian pacers like Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami.

Notably, Akram also signed Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Irfan, further showcasing his ability to spot and nurture bowling talent. His vast experience and expertise in fast bowling helped shape the careers of several bowlers and left a lasting impact on KKR’s bowling department.

“The rivalry is always fierce, but in India, I’ve always felt a deep respect for my bowling skills. Even amid the competition, Indian fans would recognize talent,” Akram shared.

He also praised the security measures during his tours, ensuring the safety of the players. Highlighting another positive aspect of his visits, Akram mentioned the hospitality and food: “We always had access to our preferred dishes, and the hospitality was always great, making the experience special despite the rivalry.”
