The Sindh government has launched an inquiry into complaints made by Chinese investors about harassment and extortion by the Sindh police.
The Chinese investors filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC), accusing police officers of demanding bribes during their travels from the airport to their residences, as well as creating obstacles in their daily activities.
In response, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar instructed the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, to investigate the matter.
Lanjar also stressed the importance of identifying any security gaps and ensuring that Chinese nationals are protected according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
He called on local sponsors to inform authorities about their Chinese staff to help facilitate security checks.
The Chinese investors had been invited to Pakistan by high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to invest in the country, while they have expressed concerns over the continuous harassment they face from the police.
The Sindh High Court has taken notice of the case and issued notices to all relevant authorities, asking them to respond within four weeks.
