Meta India apologizes for Zuckerberg’s statement on elections 2024

Meta India has issued an apology after a statement made by CEO Mark Zuckerberg suggested that the Indian government lost the 2024 elections due to its handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, calling the statement an “inadvertent error.”

In a post on X on January 14, Meta India’s vice president, Shivnath Thukral, clarified that while such observations were true for several countries, they did not apply to India.

He further emphasized that India is a crucial market for Meta and expressed the company’s commitment to its future in the country.

The apology came in response to criticism from BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who heads the parliamentary committee on communications and information technology.

Dubey had expressed concerns over the misinformation and announced plans to summon Meta for a clarification. He stated that the company should apologize to both the Indian Parliament and the people of India for the mistake.
