Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has filed cases against five individuals for sharing defamatory AI-generated content targeting UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
As per the media reports, the FIA officials confirmed the arrest of the accused including Journalist and YouTuber – Imran Riaz Khan, PTI leader – Shahbaz Gill, along with Nadeem Javed, Muhammad Ejaz, and Amer Abbas from Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad.
During the operation, the authorities seized their mobile phones.
Media reports claimed that 20 social media accounts involved in sharing fake images of Maryam Nawaz have been identified. While three suspects are already in custody, meanwhile, raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits.
The FIR alleges that the accused deliberately shared AI-generated images and videos on social media to damage Pakistan’s relations with international powers, potentially harming national interests.
The controversy began after Maryam Nawaz met President Mohammed bin Zayed during an official visit.
A photo shared on social media showing Nawaz with the UAE leader and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was later inappropriately edited and shared on social media platforms.
