Development work at Karachi’s National Stadium for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is expected to be completed by mid-January.

The stadium’s new infrastructure is set to be finished within the next 10 days, with final touches taking an additional 2 to 3 weeks.

However, due to ongoing work, the first Test match between Pakistan and the West Indies, scheduled for January 16, has been moved to Multan.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi visited the stadium last night to inspect the progress, and the relevant authorities briefed him regarding the ongoing work.

He reviewed the construction of various floors and urged the installation of score screens and LED lights to be completed quickly.

Naqvi confirmed that while the building would be ready by January, some work would continue into the new year, which could impact the Test schedule with West Indies.

He assured, however, that the tri-series matches leading up to the Champions Trophy 2025 would still take place in Karachi to test the new facilities.

The Chairman explained that the stadium’s fences are being replaced to improve the view, and parking space for over 2,700 vehicles is being prepared for the spectators, while the installation of new seating and LED lights will be finished by mid-January.

Naqvi also addressed the issue of the neutral venue for India’s matches, stating that a decision will be made soon, adding that the PCB has submitted its suggestions, and a final decision will depend on the ICC’s schedule.

Regarding the controversy surrounding Fakhar Zaman’s selection, Naqvi commented that the selection committee should address the matter.

He stressed that coaches are responsible for coaching, while selectors handle team selection, with overall performance being the result of collective effort.
