Major cities across Pakistan, including Karachi, will get 3,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, according to Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Convenor of the FPCCI Energy Standing Committee.
Under Pakistan’s Electric Vehicle Policy for 2025-2030, these stations have to be established in the next two years.
As per media reports, this initiative is part of a $350 million investment from a Chinese company, aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles, reducing fuel imports, and lowering environmental pollution.
Currently, Pakistan has only 11-13 EV charging stations, but the government and the Chinese company plan to begin the installation of the new stations starting in January, focusing on cities like Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan, with an extension planned along the Islamabad-Karachi Motorway.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh revealed that two Pakistani companies, Malik Enterprises and Indus Valley, are partnering with the Chinese company Adam Groups to carry out the project in collaboration with the government.
The installation of EV charging stations is set to begin within two weeks, with significant growth in electric vehicle usage anticipated by 2030, when electric vehicles are projected to make up 30 percent of Pakistan’s vehicle fleet.
