Rangers, along with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) carried out a joint tip-off operation in Quaidabad area of Karachi and claimed to have arrested the three most wanted suspects of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Swat group.
The suspects, Javed Swati alias Bhai Jan, Shahid Hussain alias Umar, and Akbar Zeb Khan, were taken into custody, and a substantial amount of explosives were recovered from their possession.
The arrested individuals are linked to numerous criminal activities, including terrorism, murder, attempted murder, and extortion.
According to the Rangers spokesperson, the suspects were planning attacks against security forces.
Javed Swati, who joined TTP Swat in 2008, had been an active member of the group in Swat under the leadership of Commander Umar ur Rehman alias Ustad Fateh.
He relocated to Karachi after his brothers were killed in a security forces operation in Swat.
Swati had been in hiding in Karachi before being arrested in 2012 and later released. He had ongoing contacts with his associates, including those who had fled to Afghanistan.
Shahid Hussain and Akbar Zeb Khan, who joined the Tehreek-e-Ghalbat-e-Islam in 2010, were involved in multiple extortion activities in Karachi.
Akbar Zeb Khan was responsible for killing retired head constable Fazal Zada and injuring Syed Afreen near Landhi area of Karachi.
The arrested suspects, along with weapons, ammunition, and explosives, have been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.
