Chakra Goth Attack: Court reserves verdict against MQM Leaders

Chakra Goth Attack case MQM Leaders

A special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has reserved its verdict in the 13-year-old Chakra Goth attack case, involving MQM London leader Rais Mama and other accused individuals.

The hearing, held at the Anti-Terrorism Complex within Central Jail Karachi, concluded with both the defense and prosecution presenting their final arguments.

The court after reserving its verdict expected to announce its decision later this week.

Defense lawyers, including Raja Hassan Nawaz and Mohammad Hassan Janjua, argued that the prosecution failed to provide substantial evidence or witness testimonies identifying Rais Mama.

Advocate Mushtaq Ahmed echoed these sentiments, requesting acquittal for the accused.

According to the prosecution, the 2011 attack in Chakra Goth, Korangi, was orchestrated by Rais Mama to instill fear and assert control.

The assault targeted a police van, resulting in the deaths of three reserve police officers and injuries to 27 others, including law enforcement personnel.

The case, registered at Zaman Town Police Station in 2011, implicates 13 accused, including Rais Mama, Imran Lamba, Inam, and others. Five suspects, including a former MQM Tanzeemi Committee in-charge, remain at large.

Previously, on November 4, the ATC reserved its decision on an acquittal plea for three MQM-London suspects, with defense counsel citing insufficient evidence.

The case has lingered for over a decade, and the upcoming verdict is anticipated to mark a significant milestone in this prolonged legal battle.
