The Federal Minister for Education, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, inaugurated the Hyderabad Institute for Technology and Management Sciences, the city’s first public degree-awarding institution, in Kohsar.
During his speech at the inaugural ceremony, Siddiqui called the event historic, noting that it took over 70 years for Hyderabad to achieve this milestone.
He remarked that while a public university was a rightful necessity for Hyderabad, it had become a distant dream over the years.
Due to constitutional constraints, the institute cannot officially be designated as a university but is authorized to award degrees to its students.
Initially, this institute offered two programs for the youth: BS in Computer Science and Software Engineering.
Siddiqui stressed the importance of focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Biotechnology to keep pace with global advancements.
The Federal Ministry of Education is also working to bring campuses of universities currently operated only in federal to Karachi, including the recent inauguration of the Karachi chapter of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD).
