Pakistan fears goods shortage amid political turmoil

Pakistan goods shortage

Ajmal Baloch, President of the All Pakistan Traders’ Association, has warned of an impending food shortage across the country due to ongoing political and economic instability.

Speaking at a press conference, Baloch called for an immediate political resolution to the chaos that has disrupted industries and transportation, leaving citizens and the business community deeply concerned.

“The closure of roads has paralyzed the business sector, halting the movement of goods and leading to fears of a food crisis nationwide,” said Baloch.

He stressed that containers carrying essential goods are stuck on highways, and the supply of critical medicines to pharmacies has been severely disrupted.

Additionally, ambulances are struggling to navigate through traffic blockades, preventing patients from reaching hospitals in emergencies.

In Lahore, the supply chain disruption has triggered a sharp rise in vegetable prices. Potatoes are now selling at Rs 200 per kilogram, nearly double their official rate, while onions and tomatoes are priced at Rs 160 and Rs 250 per kilogram, respectively.

Baloch urged political leaders to address the unrest immediately, warning that continued inaction could lead to further economic damage and a deepening humanitarian crisis.
