The roads of Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan, has become shockingly dangerous with reports claiming that at least three people have lost their lives in 24 hours in traffic accidents involving heavy vehicles.

According to a report by ARY News, Karachi’s deteriorating traffic system is leading to a rising number of fatalities, with lives being lost every day.

The report further claimed that Karachi has the highest traffic fatality rate, with the Edhi Foundation reporting an average of three deaths per day, mostly involving motorcyclists.

Despite this alarming trend, traffic police appear more focused on issuing fines and managing “deals” rather than effectively managing the flow of traffic.

The city’s road network spans over 10,000 kilometers, serving 6 million motorcycles, over 2 million cars, and numerous commercial vehicles.

However, congestion and encroachments continue to worsen the traffic problem, reflecting the neglect of the city’s administration.

The risk of accidents has increased as 70 percent of Karachi’s roads lack basic infrastructure, such as zebra crossings, overpasses, and footpaths.

According to the Karachi Traffic Police, industrial areas with heavy traffic are the hotspots for accidents.

Reports indicate that most accidents involve motorcyclists colliding with trucks or cars, often due to reckless driving of heavy commercial vehicles.

Furthermore, the citizens also complained that driving licenses are often issued without proper regulations or checks, adding to the chaos on the streets.
