Karachi airport declared red zone, established five checkposts

Security has been intensified at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, which has now been declared a red zone, while five checkposts have been established to access airport premises, according to SSP Malir Kashif Abbasi.

Strict measures have been implemented to ensure safety, with access to areas around the airport has been restricted.

The citizens are prohibited from entering the red zone or visit the airport, and only passengers, airport staff, and those on official duty will be allowed entry the airport premises.

The passengers were further instructed to carry their flight tickets and national identity cards to pass through the security checkpoints.

To enhance security, five new police check posts have been established around the airport, located at Star Gate, CAA Club Road, Model Mor, Madam Bridge and the Rangers Chowki Funeral Area, with officers will be on duty 24/7 to inspect all suspicious persons and vehicles crossing the check posts.

SSP Malir has urged passengers to arrive well before their flight times to complete the security procedures smoothly.

“Your safety and convenience are our top priorities,” SSP Malir stated, reaffirming the district police’s commitment to maintaining peace and assisting citizens in case of any difficulties.

Last week, the Civil Aviation Officers Association of Pakistan (CAOP) requested Karachi airport authorities to reconsider recently imposed security restrictions, suggesting instead the use of advanced technology.

Following a deadly attack on a Chinese convoy that killed two Chinese nationals and left several others injured, the airport has strict security asking visitors to bring additional documents and blocking a road leading to the airport.

CAOP Chairman Zarin Gul Durrani acknowledged the need for security but expressed concern that these restrictions may unnecessarily inconvenience passengers and their families.

Durrani recommended focusing on security technologies such as CCTV surveillance, biometric scanners, and AI-based threat detection to enhance safety without adding hassle for visitors at Jinnah International Airport.
