In another development in the infamous case of the alleged abduction and subsequent forced marriage of a 14-year-old girl from Karachi to a 21-year-old man named Zaheer in Lahore, the court has now declared it illegal for media houses to name the young girl in any media coverage.
Sharing this development with a local media house Jibran Nasir, the lawyer for the young girl’s father Mehdi Kazmi, said that the young girl is now in a model shelter home run by the Sindh government in Karachi and the court has been told that the girl’s parents are available to bear any expenses that she may have while living in protective custody.
Earlier, the court had issued an order seeking Zaheer’s arrest in the case. After this, the young man’s mother conducted a press conference and issued an apology to the minor’s parents stating that both her sons are in danger after the case was reopened.
The case had been reopened when a fresh physical and DNA exam had revealed that the 14-year-old was indeed a minor and not above the age of 18 as she had earlier claimed in various public statements that were made public through social media.
