In a court hearing on Karachi related case, cheif fire officer of Karachi’s Fire Bridage department said before the judge there are only 14 fire tenders for the entire city.
For a long time now our 30 tenders are parked in out-of-order state without anyone paying heed to them.
He said in a normal day, it’s required for the city this big to have 90 fire tenders standing by.
Keeping this in consideration, the justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar who headed the two-member bench ordered Commissioner Karachi to furnish report on 30 broken down fire tenders while has also ordered Sindh Building Control Authority to present to court the residential building safety certificates report for any untoward incident.
It may be noted that earlier this week, the court heard the petition on nonfunctional helpline of fire office and the fire laws in the city submitted by Nadeem Shaikh Advocate to which court inquired from the commissioner why the helpline was non functional.
According to the reports, despite repeated questions from the bench, the commissioner couldn’t respond satisfactorily to which the court noted that it was perhaps it was blocked because it was always unresponsive.
