Chief Secretary Sindh Dr Muhammad Sohail has said that the World Bank will help the province procure 230 ambulances this year and that Rescue 1122 services would be started in all the districts of the province.
The claims were made while the chief secretary presided over an important meeting on Rescue 1122.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Secretary Admission Saeed Ahmed Mangrejo, Secretary Health Zulfiqar Shah, Secretary Rehabilitation, Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority and representatives of World Bank and other officials.
Briefing the meeting regarding Rescue 1122, the officials of PDMA said that at present 60 ambulances are running in the services in Sindh under Sindh Integrated Sources in Karachi and Thatta. It was further said that 30 more ambulances will be provided in 2 days. The service will also be launched in Hyderabad and Badin.
The meeting was told that Rescue 1122 would take steps to deal with various calamities including floods, earthquakes and fires. A state of the art Command and Control Center would be set up in Karachi and Rescue 1122 would be monitored 24 hours a day. The meeting was also informed that the work on Rescue 1122 headquarters and 6 stations in Karachi is in its final stages.
