MQM-P thinks of quitting the coalition government

Following little progress on agreements with the PPP, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has begun to consider leaving the coalition government, among other possibilities, according to Geo News on Saturday.

In August, the MQM voiced worry over the protracted delay in implementing the agreement reached with the MQM-P, and requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to play his part in this crucial scenario.

According to the party’s spokesperson, Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, all senators, ministers, and MNAs have been asked to be in Karachi as soon as possible.

According to sources, the MQM-P and PPP leadership agreed on revisions to the local body’s law during a meeting two days prior.

Amid delay in the implementation of the agreement, MQM-P has expressed concerns over "zero progress”, said the sources.

PPP, MQM-P sign agreement

After splitting from the then-PTI administration in March, the MQM-P and PPP signed the "Charter of Rights for the People of Sindh” in order to create a "long-term relationship” in several fields.

The two parties agreed to form a "long-term collaboration to safeguard people’s unity; to promote social justice; and to assure the economic well-being of the people of Sindh, particularly those who are left behind for various causes.”

According to the terms of the agreed pact, with the joint consent of PPP and MQM-P, the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government should be implemented in letter and spirit within one month.
