The Met Office has issued a warning that most of Sindh is expected to receive a heavy spell of rain, dust, thunder, and hailstorms from Friday, April 28, 2023, to May 1, 2023. The Met Office also noted that a new westerly wave is expected to enter southern Balochistan, bringing scattered dust-thunderstorms, moderate to heavy falls of rain, and hailstorms. Heavy rain may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas of Qambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Matiari, and Badin districts, while strong winds may damage vulnerable structures. According to the Met Office, several cities and districts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar, are expected to be affected by the rain and windy spell.
The Met Office has also forecasted that upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir are likely to experience rain and wind-thunderstorms in the next 24 hours. The weather remained dry in most parts of the country over the past 24 hours, except for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muzaffarabad, Kalat, and Gwadar, which experienced rain-thunderstorms.
The Met Office has warned people residing in affected areas to take precautions against the heavy rain, strong winds, and hailstorms. The day’s maximum temperature was recorded in Jacobabad, Sibi, and Rahim Yar Khan, each reaching 42 Celsius, while Mohenjo Daro, Larkana, and Rohri recorded 41 Celsius each. The Met Office has also forecasted that a westerly wave will enter Pakistan from April 26 (evening/night) and will likely spread in central and southern parts of the country until the first week of May.
