After a man was slain on Sunday in Karachi for resisting a robbery attempt in the city’s Orangi Town neighbourhood, street violence claimed another life in the city.
The incident happened at Iqbal Market when three armed guys on a motorcycle tried to rob Ismail of his possessions. The suspects opened fire on him after he refused their attempt at a robbery.
He used to supply things to stores, according to the family, and was survived by three children.
With AIG Javeed Akhter Odho claiming that Karachiites make more noise over crime incidences, the unmuted Karachi police have downplayed the city’s street crime incidents.
He asserted that Lahore and other major cities in the nation have higher crime rates than Karachi.
Additionally, according to Sindh police, some individuals are waging an anti-police campaign by disseminating bogus footage of street violence and inciting fear among the populace.
In response to social media recordings of street crime, Karachi police officers released an explanation. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Bahadur, the most of the films are from other places and are being distributed under the name of Karachi in order to instil fear among the populace.
One of the films being shared, according to him, is from Latin America. According to Bahadur, another video of a heist at a pizza store that is purportedly from Gulshan-e-Iqbal is really from Faisalabad.
He continued by saying that bogus movies were being distributed using the name of the nearby Gulshan-e-Iqbal hotel. He stated that the hotel’s owner had disputed the robbery.
In a different incident, two Times of Karachi and Pakistan reporters were robbed at Saghir Centre, Sohrab Goth. The robbers did away with more than Rs5 lac worth of equipment and cash from the two men.
