Greece boat tragedy: death toll reaches 80, 150 Pakistanis missing

The death toll in the Greece boat accident has risen to 80, with the discovery of two additional bodies, while 150 Pakistanis have been confirmed missing. The nationality of the deceased has not been disclosed. Among the missing Pakistanis, 101 belong to Gujranwala, 47 from Gujarat, 38 from Gujranwala, 11 from Sialkot, and 5 from Mandi Bahauddin.

Tragically, two Pakistanis are also among the missing passengers of a submarine that went to see the Titanic wreck. Furthermore, 21 youth from different districts of Azad Kashmir and 2 from Faisalabad are still unaccounted for since the boat accident.

DNA samples have been taken from the families of 40 missing individuals from Gujranwala and Sialkot, as efforts continue to identify the victims. However, hopes of the missing passengers’ survival have started to diminish, as it has been six days since the accident.

Pakistani Overseas Minister Sajid Turi has announced that the bodies of the deceased Pakistanis will be repatriated to Pakistan via charter flight, which may take several weeks.

In the crackdown against human traffickers involved in illegal migration, authorities have arrested 11 individuals from Azad Kashmir and 7 from the Gujranwala region. The apprehended traffickers, including Mumtaz Arain and Abid Hussain, are accused of endangering lives and extorting large sums of money.

The investigations have unveiled a network operating across Pakistan, Libya, and other countries, with a Pakistani based in Libya and his three brothers allegedly orchestrating the operation. The network also involves collaborators in Pakistan and Egypt, with a jeweler from Gujarat allegedly playing a role in the group. Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing the case and making efforts to dismantle the human trafficking network.
