The Sindh Accountant General (AG) Office has taken a significant step by releasing funds for the clearance of Chinese imported buses, allowing for the expansion of Karachi’s People’s Bus Service fleet. The imported buses, initially procured during the tenure of the former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government, were facing delays in clearance at the Karachi Port.
The release of funds comes following the intervention of Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, who took notice of the prolonged delay and issued a warning to the Accountant General (AG) Sindh. The caretaker CM emphasized the urgency of releasing the required amount for the clearance without further delays.
Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar expressed concern about potential decay or faults in the buses, holding the Accountant General accountable in case of any issues. The release of funds is expected to facilitate the timely clearance of the imported buses, providing relief to commuters in Karachi.
Additionally, CM Baqar highlighted the importance of projects such as the Circular Railway and the completion of all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines to address the public transport challenges in Karachi. He pledged to engage with the federal government for the swift approval of the BRT Red Line Corridor from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). This move signifies a commitment to improving and expanding the public transportation infrastructure in Karachi.
