Federal govt to build underground gas storage in Sindh, provide gas to surrounding areas

The federal government has announced plans to construct an underground gas storage facility in the Badin district of Sindh, as indicated in the budget papers.

The proposed project is estimated to cost 1.848 billion rupees, with an allocation of 150 million rupees in the federal budget for the fiscal year 2023-24.

Additionally, the government has decided to provide gas to areas located within a five-kilometer radius of gas fields, in compliance with a ruling by the Supreme Court. The budget papers state that the project for this initiative is estimated to cost 869 million rupees, with an allocation of 100 million rupees in the upcoming federal budget.

The budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 is scheduled to be presented in the National Assembly on June 9th, following approval of the budget proposals by the federal cabinet.
