On the eve of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir delivered a resolute message, asserting that any attempt to undermine the military is synonymous with weakening the nation itself. Speaking at the Independence Parade at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul on Tuesday night, General Munir emphasized the unbreakable bond between the military and the people of Pakistan, and the central role of the armed forces in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.
Addressing the cadets and distinguished guests at the event, General Munir reaffirmed the military’s unwavering commitment to the defense of the nation. "Our national consciousness is rooted in the ideology of Pakistan, which is based on the Two-Nation Theory. Any effort to weaken our armed forces is akin to weakening the state,” he declared, reinforcing the integral connection between the military’s strength and the nation’s security.
The Independence Parade began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, setting a solemn tone for the evening. A laser light show followed, vividly depicting Pakistan’s struggle for independence and the nation’s journey of resilience and growth. The cadets of the Pakistan Military Academy showcased their discipline and dedication with an impressive march-past, while a flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the stroke of midnight. The national anthem echoed through the grounds as the 12th Baloch Regiment proudly raised the flag, symbolizing the nation’s unity and pride.
The parade, attended by cadets, their families, and other distinguished guests, was a display of the military’s discipline, commitment, and patriotism. Attendees expressed admiration for the cadets’ performance, reflecting the high standards of the Pakistan Military Academy.
In his address, General Munir expressed profound gratitude for the blessings of freedom and the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s forefathers. He paid tribute to the heroes of the independence movement, whose sacrifices paved the way for the creation of Pakistan. He also underscored the importance of unity, warning that internal discord and division could weaken the nation, making it vulnerable to external threats.
"Pakistan’s future is bright and secure, and our forces will continue to defend it with unwavering resolve,” General Munir stated, highlighting the enduring bond between the military and the people. He emphasized that despite rapid global changes, Pakistan continues to hold a significant position within the Muslim Ummah and the world due to its steadfast stance on key issues.
General Munir concluded his address by acknowledging the ongoing threat of extremism and terrorism in the region. He commended the sacrifices made by the people, armed forces, and law enforcement agencies in combating these challenges. "We recognize the persistent threat of extremism and terrorism, but let it be known that our resolve to secure our nation remains unshaken,” he said, reaffirming the military’s commitment to making every sacrifice necessary to ensure the nation’s security.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of unity, strength, and vigilance in the face of challenges. As Pakistan celebrates its 77th Independence Day, the words of General Munir resonate deeply, reminding the nation of the sacrifices made for freedom and the ongoing duty to protect and preserve it for future generations.
