Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh, Justice Retired Maqbool Baqir, has directed the Commissioner of Karachi to take decisive action against high street selling in the city. The order follows a briefing by the Commissioner, who outlined the initiation of a campaign targeting high street vendors across all districts of Karachi.
According to the briefing, the campaign, launched on Sunday, has resulted in fines amounting to over Rs. 13.9 lakh against 234 hawkers. In the Eastern district alone, 11 wholesalers faced fines totaling Rs. 3.05 lakh. Similar actions were reported in Korangi, where 30 vendors were fined Rs. 22,300, and in Malir district, where 69 wholesalers incurred fines amounting to Rs. 3.22 lakh.
The crackdown extended to the Central District, resulting in fines of Rs. 267,000 against 29 wholesalers. In the West District, 27 vendors faced fines totaling Rs. 73,000, while in Kemari District, 28 vendors were fined Rs. 65,000. The South District reported fines of Rs. 3,36,500 against 40 vendors.
During the meeting, the caretaker chief minister emphasized the importance of enforcing official rates and ensuring relief for the public. He expressed a commitment to addressing the concerns of citizens and pledged efforts to alleviate their challenges. The ongoing campaign is part of broader efforts to regulate street vending activities and maintain order in Karachi’s commercial areas.
